Little Navmap is a free open source flight planner, navigation tool, moving map, airport search and airport information system for Flight Simulator X, Prepar3D, and X-Plane. A map display using the OpenStreetMap as a background map which is only one option of many online and included offline maps. The map shows airports, navaids, airways, airspaces, AI or multiplayer aircraft and ships.
An elevation profile is shown for the flight plan. Search functionality allows looking for airports, navaids or procedures. The program can generate an ATS route description from flight plans and vice versa. A cycle database is included. The archive littlenavmapwin View them.
This list displays the first files in the package. If the package has more, you will need to download it to view them. Most of the freeware add-on aircraft and scenery packages in our file library come with easy installation instructions which you can read above in the file description.

For the serious simmer, you will be impressed. Its easy, but yet advanced if you want it to be. Awesome piece of work. This is a no brainer, has nothing to do with installing anywhere near FSX etc.

Click on airport and then an approach- box to move your aircraft there. Or click anywhere on the map to move to that position in the air. Click on an airport to bring up its runway map and additional data.
Depending on the level of zoom, you may not see all, they are displayed in order of size. You see in the blue window how many are shown, and total number within map. To measure distances, click on the measuring tool at the bottom right corner. Then click on the map to define the initial point, and add legs by clicking again. You can click the List button in the Measure window to bring up a list with bearings and distances. To search for airports, click the Find Airports button in the top right corner.
Here you can search for airports in a certain country, state or city and sort them for the one closest to current map center.
You can set various conditions in the search, such as runway length, ILS and runway surface. If you select "Filter Map", only airports matching the current search are shown on the map. If you click on an airport on the map, or in the search results, you bring up the runway map where each valid approach is indicated with its number and color coding that tells ILS status and if the approach has VASI lights or not.
If you hover the mouse over the symbol, you will bring up information about all details of the approach and runway. If you click the symbol, the glide slope for that approach will be presented on the map, with details depending on level of zoom. Signing in allows you to set preferences and give comments to airports. In the search window, you can set a condition to only search for airports that you have given a comment.
If you sign in, you can also plot your FSX aircraft live on the map, see a list of your flights and download detailed track data for your flight. Here you can download the FSXmap.

Thanks, Allblack Showing 1 - 15 of 37 comments. Is there an issue with the built in planner? I use it, enter the data into my GPS and I am good to go. Set it for low level VFR and you'll have a blast. Never use "Direct GPS" route.

It is a program called OzRunways running on an iPad. This connects with your sim through your home network, when you put OzR in simulation mode. Of course this is not the cheepest option here, especially if you are not a RW pilot, but it is another option.
What you get is all you need to legally conduct a flight in real life. Probably a bit of overkill for your casual flight simmer, but it is about the best you'll get in a flight planning and aeronautical navigation tool. It even replaces your GPS.
What if any advantage over the built in planner? I like VFR and don't want to spend my RT time asking permission or flight following so I set it to low altitude traffic airways and enter that info into my gps.All is based on flight simulator stock or add-on data, no third party data needed.
All stock and add-on airports are loaded in a few minutes. Navigation data can be updated from Navigraph. A cycle database courtesy of navigraph is included in the download and includes navaids, airways, airspaces and procedures. Support for X-Plane navdata updates and user defined waypoints. Can read airspaces in OpenAir format from any directory which can be chosen by the user. Navigraph, Simulator, User or Online airspaces can be selected for display.
It features a detail rich navigation map that partially uses symbols from real VFR maps thus transporting a large amount of information. Several map themes provide hill shading as well as display of the sun shadow on the globe.
Quick modifier mouse clicks in map allow fast actions. Plenty of information is available in tooltips or information windows for each map object. Drag and drop flight plan editing functionality on the map allows to easily create and edit plans.
Several fast automatic flight plan calculation modes are available to create plans following airways or simply from radio navaid to radio navaid within a split second. No online service is needed for flight plan calculation. Option to calculate flight plan fragments between any two waypoints of a present flight plan. Flight plan route descriptions can be read which allows to convert flight plans from and to ATS route descriptions which can be retrieved from the various online services like RouteFinder or SkyVector.
Aircraft performance, fuel planning top of climb and top of descent calculation considering aircraft performance, winds aloft and altitude restrictions in procedures is available and can be automatically collected in background while flying. A zoom and scrollable elevation profile window shows the ground elevation along the flight plan including the minimum safe altitude for the whole plan or each segment as well as procedure altitude restrictions.
The map and flight plans including all related information at departure and destination can be printed. A fast airport and navaid search allows to look for objects by an unimaginable amount of options also featuring a spatial search to find nearest airports. Sunrise and sunset for airports is shown in information as well as bearing and distance to user aircraft.
The map display and the measurement units nautical, metric, imperial can be customized by the user. User interface and map display can be further customized by changing configuration files and SVG icons.
All settings, search parameters, current flight plan, map positions and much more are saved between sessions. Little Navmap can connect directly to the flight simulator, the Little Xpconnect X-Plane plugin and can also be run stand-alone or in networked configuration.
