If you had to decide which bit of tech in your house is THE most important, would you think of your WiFi router? Many probably wouldn't, but a decent router is the key to getting all those other gadgets connected to the internet and doing what they're intended to do. We've been sent another from our chums at TP-Link; a router that is both easy to use and easy on the eyes.

Recently we've reviewed a few a very large, very over-powered WiFi routers not to mention some very angular and sharp-edged ones from Netgearso it was actually refreshing to get our hands of the Archer VR This thing isn't very big, being only 20cm wide, and moulded in curvy black plastic with silver highlights.

The three removable antenna on the back aren't huge either, so the whole package won't be taking up much space — especially considering that it can be wall mounted.

Considering the small size and light weight, we could imagine it being used quite successfully remotely with a dongle, so chalk that up as a win. Oh, if you're a BT Infinity customer, you need that, by the way. The specs of the VR are pretty average, and nothing about the two bands a 2. The 2. However, what we weren't expecting on a device of this size and price was Beamforming. On the 5GHz network Beamforming can be be used to accurately target individual devices to ensure they get a concentrated stream of data, while also improving the range of the WiFi.

We set ours up to focus on the Roku player connected to the living room TV. It resulted in quick loading times of shows on Netflix, and there was never any lag, especially when the show first starts.

We also tested it on a phone and started to move around the house while watching a YouTube video. With Beamforming on the Archer VR were we able to move further away all the way down the street, in fact without losing signal or causing loading lag. The rest of the time VR just worked, and worked very well. It's a nice and clean app that aids both in the set up and general maintenance of the router.

So this is very simple to use and master, while also looking good and performing great. And hey, ain't nobody complaining about that price, yo. Visit uk.Your browser does not support JavaScript. The management interface is well laid out and has a great cross section of features. The dual band wireless signal has been robust over a range of 15m and it passes Gigabit Ethernet traffic without a hiccup I don't know if this is the network, provider or NBN system that makes internet today worse then 3 years ago.

The box of the router does not have any hook so I can hook it up on the wall, they assume that I will have a shelf to put it on? What I can I say it was cheap and looks great in the kitchen.

Has a fantastic range and well out does any NBN bottleneck with fibre to the node connections. My previous modem used to be D Link python which was a great device, however after a year and half, it started getting dropouts frequently for some reason. After going through quite a few attempts and checks with D-link technician over the phone, D-link offered me a refund. I bought this router from Officeworks and since then I haven't looked back.

The router is easy to set up with a very few time dropouts so far barely in last six months. I would rate this router for ease of set up, reliable and affordability. Five stars from me :. We live in a area where its sometimes hard to get the network but since we got this everything went the best.

I even get coverage from little far from my house. Needed something NBN compliant once it rolled into my area, this was a decent budget unit that does the job. Pretty simple to set up - mostly automated. Aesthetically sleek design and easy enough to find the relevant buttons and ports. Get dropouts maybe once a month or less, pretty reliable. Wi-fi range is so-so, I can connect with varying signal strength depending on the range obviously, though I've seen better.

The UI and internal settings could be a lot more involved and expanded sadly, no ability to block individual IP's or certain other tweaks that you may be interested in. The reviewer stated that an incentive was offered for this review.

Bought this router modem when I was having an issue with the TPG modem which they provided. I was thinking of changing the old modem but unfortunately I will lose my VOIP as I don't have the configuration for this. Instead I use the VRV in bridge mode and use the old one as a modem only.

It is an easy to use product where you literally just plug it in. I can recommend this if you are looking for an easy to use modem. Bought a period of time, sometimes will be inexplicable drop line, probably a few minutes. Sometimes a reboot is needed to fix the problem, whether it is a router problem or a carrier problem. When you go to the room and close the door, the signal is very erratic.I currently have a VR v2 model connected to a fibre connection.

Previously I have a VR v1 device which worked great for about 2 years but then started suffering crashes. A power cycle of the device was the only way to recover it. At which point it would be ok for a few hours or maybe a few days before it locked up again. I thought it was just on the way out so recently replaced with a used Vr v2 model.

But after a few weeks I'm getting the same symptoms on this v2 device. Very frustrating. Do you have any ideas what may cause such issues? Unfortunately, this is making the device unusable as it's been too unreliable. Would like to get a solution as they are great devices otherwise.

I was very happy with the original one I had. Just tried using the tp-link support contact form but it failed to submit my query, so posting here instead. Sorry to hear that you have some difficulties, we will do some troubleshooting and then try to fix it.

A5 It's not just the WAN connection that simply drops. It wont even operate as a simple LAN switch no traffic will go through the device when it has this issue. No where near as nice, but it was robust for the few weeks it was un use. However it's been almost 2 days and it hasn't crashed yet! I suspect it will at somepoint It was about 2 crashes a day for the past couple of weeks.

See attached screenshot from router. Note DSL uptime is low because I changed bitswap setting ealier to see if it makes any difference on my line speed, trying to squeeze a bit more out of it. Little or no difference sadly. Will keep it up and running at this to test reliability.

So far the router has remained up and running since Sunday, although the User Interface feels quite laggy at times, often taking up to a minute to load a page. Little frustration that since reporting the issue here it seems to be heaving, apart from the slow UI. If it lost connection again, please connect your computer to the VR by ethernet cable and check its IP address and gateway.

Instruction as below:. And try to ping the gateway of the router which is Hi, I just got my vr v2 2 weeks ago and every night it would crash, till I read somewhere about the lan leasing so I then set a few static IP addresses and set the lease time to the max, so now it crashes every 2 days instead.

My previous talk talk router was utter slow garbage but it never crashed :. There's an option to reset the router every 3 days but it never lasts that long. I was also hoping to try a different firmware but I can't seem to find one from dd-wrt. Anyway, it's went down again. Lights are normal, devices see the WiFi signal but can't get an IP address.
